What does the Act say?
You must not discriminate against, or victimise a person:
- in the arrangements that you make for deciding who is offered admission as a pupil
- as to the terms on which you offer to admit the person as a pupil
- by not admitting the person as a pupil.
You must not harass a person who has applied for admission as a pupil.
If you are a single-sex school there are exceptions for admissions to enable you to restrict admission to pupils of one sex. If you are a school with a religious character there is an exception for admissions to enable you to have admissions criteria which give preference to members of your own religion. This is explained in more detail in Exceptions.
