The Commission commented on the Charity Commission’s ruling on the charitable status of the adoption agency Catholic Care (Leeds) having intervened in the case to argue that an organisation cannot be registered as a charity and receive benefits such as tax relief, unless it acts in the public benefit. A charity should also comply with the Human Rights Act which outlaws discrimination.

Commenting on the publication of the Commission's Annual Report and Accounts for 2008/9, Neil Kinghan, Director General said: “I regret that the Commission made mistakes in its first eighteen months and accept the National Audit Commission’s decision to qualify our accounts as a result. But I welcome the NAO’s recognition of the “immediate and significant changes [the Commission] has made to improve its procurement processes”.
