£4 million lottery grant for project devoted to black Britain
Thanks to a £4 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the long derelict Raleigh Hall in Brixton will be transformed into a museum housing the 8,000 piece Black Cultural Archives, reports the Guardian and the Press Association.
Judge orders release of controversial cleric
"Release hate cleric, orders judge", reports The Times, the Daily Telegraph and several other nationals. Abu Qatada, who the papers describe as ‘Osama bin Laden's right hand man in Europe’, was yesterday granted bail by an immigration tribunal in London. The home secretary, Jacqui Smith, last night expressed her "extreme disappointment" at the decision. Daily Mail columnist Richard Littlejohn says, "thanks to 'yuman rites' laws, Britain has become a safe haven for international terrorists and illegal immigrants. Just ask Abu Qatada, Bin Laden's European ambassador."

Cardinal warns of "God free" Britain
British public life cannot be a "god free zone", the head of the Catholic church in England, Cormac Murphy O'Connor, said last night. The Guardian reports that the Cardinal has said he in "unhappy with attempts to eliminate the Christian voice from the public forum".
