Celebr8 on the Silver Screen

The Equality and Human Rights Commission is proud to be supporting this year's Celebr8(Don't Discrimin8) campaign, an exciting annual festival which aims to highlight and celebrate the cultural, social and economic benefits of diversity.

From June onwards, a series of events will celebrate the wealth of diversity across the North West, encourage people to see diversity as an asset to the region and bring together different groups of people.

This year, Celebr8 hosts a new competition - Celebr8 on the Silver Screen

From the Oscar-winning 'Crash' to Ang Lee's 'Brokeback Mountain', movies have featured diversity in interesting and challenging ways. Now film fans have the chance to produce their own script about diversity and the impact it has on our lives. The winning film will be made by a professional team and will be premiered in September. It will then be screened at cinemas across the region.

Entrants should submit a script or piece of creative writing which can be turned into a short film, lasting no longer than three minutes, illustrating ‘What diversity means to me’. To help you prepare a winning script and ultimately to transform your idea into the final silver screen production, a team of writers and experts have been recruited to coach you through the creative writing process in a series of regional workshops.

The deadline for competition entries is 23 July 2008.

The Celebr8 festival is coordinated and funded by the North West Regional Assembly, the North West Regional Development Agency, Government Office North West and NHS North West.
