Codes of practice 

 

The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 was amended by the Disability Discrimination Act 2005 to place a duty on all public sector authorities to promote disability equality.

The Commissions Statutory Codes of Practice on the Disability Equality Duty aims to clarify what the duty means for the public sector.

The Commissions Code of Practice on the Disability Equality Duty (England and Wales) completed its laying period before Parliament on 3 December 2005. The Commission issued the Code of Practice on 4 December 2005.

The Code of Practice on the Disability Equality Duty (Scotland) completed its laying period before Parliament on 21st January 2006. The Commission issued the Code of Practice on Monday 23rd January.

The Commission has also produced a booklet  “Who is Covered” listing all Public Authorities that are covered by the specific Disability Equality Duty and Gender Equality Duty in Scotland.
