Invitation to tender: Summer Camps Programme 2008

The Equality and Human Rights Commission will host a summer camps programme for young people in summer 2008.

The programme will draw on lessons learned from a pilot programme organised by the Commission for Racial Equality in 2006.

The programme is expected to contribute to:

  • Building good relations – participants in the programme will include young people from all backgrounds, considering ethnicity, disability, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, faith or belief, and home region.
  • Helping to reduce gaps between social groups – the programme will seek to attract participants from across the social and economic spectrum.
  • Encouraging young people to take on leadership roles in their communities and nurturing this potential on an ongoing basis – Leadership development and related training will be an important part of the programme.

It is essential that the programme is built on a solid foundation of policy and evidence related to the youth sector.

The Commission is seeking to hire the services of one or more organisation(s) to design, plan and manage its summer camps programme in summer 2008.

The bidding organisation(s) should have:

  • experience working with and training young people, ideally through outdoors, teambuilding activities;
  • experience working with young people and contentious social issues and attitudes;
  • excellent knowledge of youth issues and policies related to youth issues and a track record of work in this field; and
  • proven expertise in programme design and evaluation required to meet the programme's objectives, or be able to demonstrate how it will work in partnership with an organisation with such an expertise.

Applications in consortia are strongly encouraged.

The deadline for receipt of tenders is 1:00 PM on Monday 31 March 2008.
