Equality Exchange Conference 2008

Wednesday 18th June, Metropole Hotel, Llandrindod Wells

Last week Dame Gillian Morgan, Permanent Secretary, Welsh Assembly Government and Sallie Glickman, Chief Executive Officer of the Philadelphia Workforce Investment Board, were inspirational at our Equality Exchange Conference.

Gill and Sallie led a debate around the following issues:

  • Taking personal responsibility for achieving change
  • Exercising leadership even though you don’t hold a position of authority
  • Developing ways to address challenges that appear intractable
  • Building effective partnerships to achieve change
  • Strengthening the network of practitioners to provide mutual support and to learn from each other

During the afternoon broadcaster Sarah Dickins did short interviews with people who have exercised leadership to advance equality objectives and there was plenty of discussion and networking throughout the day.

Delegates expressed their enthusiasm for the event on the very positive evaluation forms, for example:

'I loved the interview technique used throughout the day.  Q and A's were really interesting and held the attention.  Thank you for a hugely enjoyable conference'

'Many thanks for such and inspiring day, it was excellent'

'Dame Gillian Morgan's work was inspirational and gave me great heart'

'Loved the format of the day i.e. Q and A's in a journalistic manner worked really well and should be repeated'

'Workshop was excellent and gave great overview of our issues and dilemmas'
