About the camp
Our Space is our annual summer camp for 14 and 15 year olds. 100 young people from different backgrounds come together each year for a week of outdoor activities and training to help build their leadership skills and confidence. Our Space's main objective is to give young people the skills, confidence and ideas to create a fairer society for all.
'There's so much pressure to be what people call perfect. I don't really understand it because if everyone looked the same it would be odd. It takes all of us to make the world.'
Dakota Blue Richards
Our Space summer camp 2008
The programme included outdoors adventure education activities, such as orienteering, navigation, first aid training, and canoeing and rafting. There was also discussion around diversity, equality and rights, as well as plenty of chances to talk about what it takes to be a leader. Most importantly, participants get the chance to meet different people from all over Great Britain and work together to share their thoughts about what it takes to create a fairer future for all.
Many of the 2008 participants are still in touch with each other and have taken part in the Commission's projects and events.
