Commission helps police improve use of stop and search
Five major police forces have improved their potentially unlawful use of stop and search powers, while continuing to see a reduction in crime rates, following a programme of work initiated by the Commission.
The forces concerned have seen reductions of up to 50 percent in overall usage and a fall for some in disproportionate usage against ethnic minorities. This followed the Commission's intervention which focused on an intelligence-based use of stop and search powers rather than one based on racial stereotypes.
