Violence Against Women – Asking For It?

NUS Wales, Wales TUC and EHRC joint violence against women conference

Statistics demonstrate that:

  • 1 in 4 women experience domestic violence in their lifetime
  • 28% of students in Wales agreed that a women is responsible for being raped if she is alone and walking in a dangerous or deserted area
  • 19% of the Welsh population think that domestic abuse is best handled as a private matter

By holding a joint conference we explored, what violence against women is, why violence against women is a workplace and campus issue and how we can work together to change attitudes.

Speakers included Cathy Owens (Amnesty Wales), Paula Hardy (Welsh Women’s Aid), Sandy Brindley (Rape Crisis Scotland) and Lynn Lynch MBE (Consultant Midwife).
